The Perseverance rover is now studying the layers of sedimentary rock in the Jezero crater on Mars.

Mr Sanjeev Gupta from the Imperial College London is a member of the Perseverance ScienceTeam.

Professor Gupta lectured on the Recent Developments in Astronomy and Space organised by IOP REMS (The Retired Members Section of the L&SE Branch) on Wednesday, 13 Jul 2022.

The image was taken on Tue, 12 Jul 2022, showing the drill and the sample of the first sedimentary rock before being placed into its sealed container.

The samples will be collected around 2028 and delivered back to Earth for extensive measurements and investigation.
